Recent results have been brilliant for Narrabri Shire greyhound trainers, and they will be hoping that their dogs can ride that wave of momentum into the Moree Greyhound Racing Club’s annual June long weekend carnival which starts on Saturday, June 8.
The month of May has seen five local trainers – Narrabri’s Robert Hobson, Wee Waa’s Kenneth Anderson, Wee Waa’s Geoffrey Whitton, Gwabegar’s Eric Butler and Bellata’s Kevin Cambell – combine for 11 winners and 11 placings across five meetings at four different venues.
Three of the winners and three placings unfolded across two TAB meetings at Gunnedah, and the other top three finishes were at Coonamble, Moree and Coonabarabran at non-TAB meets.
One of the most outstanding Narrabri Shire greyhounds at the moment is the Hobson-trained Rosa’s Revenge.
In May four-year-old black bitch Rosa’s Revenge has raced to two first-placed finishes and a second placing from four starts.
Both of those winners were at TAB meetings in Gunnedah on May 15 and 22.
On Wednesday, May 15, Rosa’s Revenge jumped from box six in the ninth and final race of the meeting.
She sped out of the box to an early lead and never gave it up across the 340-metre distance as she won by almost two lengths.
The following Wednesday she jumped from box two in the fifth race of the evening which was also run over a distance of 340 metres.
She was made to work hard early in the race but turned the best of the eight-dog field to speed away to a four-and-a-quarter-length win.
Rosa’s Revenge was the only Narrabri Shire-trained dog to race on May 15, but on May 22 Butler had six dogs in action.
Three of those placed and one was victorious.
