On April 20, 2019 Narrabri’s Kate Logan and Wee Waa’s Daniel Kahl tied the knot in front of family and friends in a beautiful wedding ceremony at the Rose Street Gardens, Wee Waa.

Despite growing up nearby, less than 50 kilometres and a levee bank apart, it took years and a Keith Urban concert to bring this Narrabri girl and Wee Waa boy together.

In fact, their paths didn’t truly crossed until 2014.

Daniel and his housemate Luke Meppem were hosting drinks before the concert and Kate came along with a friend, Amy Trindall.

“Kate had forgotten to print her ticket for the after party, so I offered to print it for her and we started making small talk before enjoying the concert with different friends,” said Daniel.

“Then three or four weeks later a group of us were playing tennis on a Sunday and we went out for dinner afterwards.

“Kate and I were seated right opposite each other and when I looked-up at her – I knew I was in trouble.”

“I just knew I was in strife, so I pretty much avoided looking at her and talked to everyone but Kate that night,” said Daniel bashfully.

And the rest is romantic history, in October 2018 Daniel proposed, and Kate accepted.

“He proposed under a full moon, on our four-year anniversary on the Namoi River bank in our backyard.

He’d set-up a picnic with lights and a fire,” said Kate.

Kate and Daniel both wanted their wedding day to reflect their love of the district, as well as their love for each other.

“It was important to us that our wedding was as local as possible,” said Daniel.

“People can rely on our community’s great local businesses for their day. We were able to source so much locally; flowers, the wedding cake, catering, jewellery, hair, make-up, wedding stationery, photography, event hire and buses. Everyone was outstanding and really helped to make the weekend so special, including being available over a long weekend.”

Kate looked gorgeous, walking down the aisle in an exquisite tulle with French lace dress and her beautiful bridesmaids Melissa Lewis (the maid of honour), Anna Dugdale, Amy Trindall and Georgie Stoltenberg wore blush pink chiffon dresses.

The boys looked dapper in tailor-made, navy suits with bowties and of course the cotton farmer, Daniel, made sure his groomsmen had cotton bolls on their lapels from the family farm.

Standing alongside Daniel was best man Sam Kahl and groomsmen Matt Kahl, Tom Craig and Adam Penman.

“Our original plan was to hold the wedding and reception down by the river at our property ‘Glenarvon’ but with no water flowing and the drought making for a fairly bleak landscape, we weren’t able to pull that off,” said Daniel.

So instead, Reverand Bernard Gabbott married the couple at the lush, green Rose Street Gardens and a reception followed at ‘Glenarvon’ homestead, home to Daniel’s parents James and Rose Kahl.

Jess Craig did an outstanding job as MC and the party kicked-on for the whole weekend with a recovery held on Sunday including a special delivery of oysters from Ross Logan’s oyster lease at Tuncurry to enjoy on the lawn for wedding guests and their children.

Mr and Mrs Kahl recently returned from their honeymoon, sailing in the Whitsundays, and will make their home on the Kahl family’s farm near Wee Waa.
