The Narrabri and District Tennis Association held its final round of the Wednesday winter doubles competition.

The competition began back in late July and attracted enough players for an A- and B-grade competition.

The winter tournament attracted 11 teams in A-grade and five teams in B-grade.

The A-grade competition came right down to the final round with three teams in contention for taking out the trophy.

Team Kirky, team RJ and team Shane/George all had the possibility of winning the first-place medal at the end of the final night.

However it was the experience of Shane Murphy and the youth of George Bennett that took out the major prize.

The side scored a two-point win, scoring 115 points over the length of the competition.

Team Kirky and team RJ finished in equal second on 113 points, just two games behind the winning team.

Narrabri Tennis Association head coach Shane Murphy said the competition was fantastic to watch and be a part of.

“The points scored were determined on how many games you won on the night,” he said.

“Overall to have three teams in contention to win A-grade was amazing.

“It is always solid tennis in A-grade, we have a good breed of players.”

In the B-grade competition David McInnes and Alistair Wheeler took out the winners medal.

B-grade winners: Alistair Wheeler and David McInnes won the B-grade Wednesday winter doubles competition.

“In B-grade we had David’s side win by 20-odd games,” said Murphy.

“They pretty much stormed through the competition.

“We have a good couple of juniors coming up in that competition which is great to see.

“We are always looking for more numbers and have a competition coming in October.”
