Forty eight riders and supporters recently spent a week living and breathing horses at the Boggabri Pony Camp .

Participants travelled from a wide area including Sydney, Toowoomba, Mudgee, Murrurundi, Scone, Middlemount Qld and Aberdeen to join their friends from Boggabri.

President of the Boggabri Pony Club Barry Thomson said this camp was one of the best they have ever held.

“It has been a great week thanks to the helpers, instructors, troop leaders, dorm parents, Guy and Trish Thomas and their hunter valley crew, the Queensland crew, Sonya’s kitchen crew who kept us fed all day every day, breakfast was fantastic,” said Mr Thomson.

“Rotary gave a sizable donation, Peter Rockcliff donated the water and the truck to water the arena each day and as you can see it is still dusty – a sign of the times and this drought.

“There are so many more that have helped and the good part was everyone worked together and the kids have had a great time.”

Guy Thomas also praised the week’s activities thanking the riders and their parents for coming and participating.

He also spoke highly of the officials and Boggabri Pony Club members who worked so hard to make it a memorable week for the riders. Riders were instructed in horseman ship, jumping, sporting, dressage, polocrosse and roping.

Each evening there were activities which included the visit from the NSW Fire and Rescue and the all important concert night.

Four year old twins Lachie and Hayley Carter attended with their parents Steve and Nell Carter. Lachie had a bit of excitement when he and his horse ‘Betty’ parted company.

He fell and broke his right arm which resulted in a ride in an ambulance to Boggabri Hospital and then onto Tamworth Hospital.

When The Courier caught up with him a couple of days later he was happy watching his sister from the grandstand while proudly holding his rainbow ribbon.

When his Nanna said tell her what happened at the Boggabri Hospital his little face lit up and he said, “I got a teddy bear for being brave.”

Richard Crawter and his wife Jodi brought their children from Middlemount, Queensland to visit his family at Willala as well as participate in the camp.

Proud grandmother Peggy Crawter was able to reminisce of times with her son at pony camp as well as spend time with her new baby granddaughter Megan.

Secretary of the club Ann Keys said Mr Crawter attended Boggabri Pony Camp as a young boy and it was lovely to see him back here with his little ones.
