For the first time in ten years the Boggabri Spring Fair committee decided to move to a twilight fair and it proved to be popular with stall holders and public alike while showcasing the town and community.

“It was a great day and the weather was fantastic,” committee member Donna Turner said.

“There were more than 40 stall holders and the children were very well catered for with all the free activities such as water slide, jumping castle, and train rides.

“We wanted people to have a good experience and people seemed to have a good time and I hope that all stall holders had a profitable day and enjoyed the experience.”

“Thanks to everyone who helped prior to the day and during the fair, it is very much appreciated.

“We will have a debrief meeting in a couple of weeks, see what worked and what we may change for next year’s fair.”

Local models took to the catwalk for the fashion parade in front of a large crowd while the SES and NSW Fire and Rescue and Paramedics had interesting displays.

The pie eating competition drew a large crowd of onlookers.

The juniors went first followed by the adults.

After five minutes two boys were equal having both eaten three pies in the five minutes.

They say a picture paints a thousand words and the photo of Tyler Buck after his three pies brought many a smile to people’s faces, however he fronted up after a short break to contest the final against Charlie White to see who could eat one pie in the shortest time.

Charlie came out the winner to claim the $50 prize.

Aaron Mosley made a clean sweep in the adult section devouring six and a half pies in the allotted 10 minutes.

Graeme McRae was hot on his heels having eaten six pies while the other contestants ate four to five pies each.

The free icy poles were extremely popular as was the food and market stalls.

The choice was endless with barbecues, hot dogs, Japanese, coffee, cold drinks, and stuffed spuds as well as all the market stalls.

There were good entries in the flower show along with colouring in and photo competitions and lots of happy faces after attending the face painting stall.

The Boggabri Lions Club held a drought relief wheel and the train was almost run off its tracks.

Train driver Richard Gillham was exhausted by the end of the day but still had a smile on his face as children lined up.

The evening finished with an impressive fire act from the visiting Circaholics Anonymous.
