Two hundred people from around the district ‘boot scooted’ away the drought blues at the Namoi Valley Christian School’s Wee Waa and Community Bush Dance, held on Saturday evening.

“We’ve had a great turnout and not just people from Wee Waa, there’s people from Narrabri, Rowena and Pilliga here too,” said NVCS teacher Heather Petersen.

Mrs Petersen came up with the idea to host a ‘good ol’ fashioned bush dance’ after the students were learning to dance in their sport lessons and she thought it would be a fun event for the whole community.

“We all need to take time out from the drought and have a laugh.”

Mrs Petersen organised the humorously-named band, Patterson’s Curse and the musicians entertained the crowd not just with the upbeat tunes but also with their dance instructions.

Before long, the community was mastering and showing off their bush dance moves from ‘Heel And Toe Polka’ to ‘The Drongo’ and ‘Strip The Willow’.

Dancers did enjoy a break and were offered Rotary’s delicious signature steak and sausage sandwiches for dinner.
