Narrabri District Junior Cricket Association will host a Sixers Girls’ Cricket competition from Saturday, November 9.

The competition will run across four consecutive Saturdays at Cooma Oval and the NDJCA is inviting any girl interested in becoming involved in junior cricket.

The NDJCA is encouraging all girls, no matter what skill level or experience, to enjoy four weeks of
jam-packed cricket action.

NDJCA president Craig Gleeson said that the program would be looking to involve as many young girls as possible.

“There has been a fair bit of interest so far,” he said.

“We see this as a great avenue for juniors in Narrabri especially down the girls’ path.

“We wanted to give them the opportunity away from the boys.

“It helps them feel that they are in more of a friendly and fun environment, not the competitive side that boys sometimes take with cricket.”

Gleeson said the Sixers girls competition would be a great way for young players to get involved with cricket.

“It gives them the opportunity to have an identity on their own more than anything,” he said.

“We are seeing what girls’ cricket is doing in Australia with the Big Bash and things like that. It really is its own identity as far as they go.

“For the girls it starts that pathway for them and creates that interesting cricket rather than going through a boys’ system.”

All players who sign up for the four-week program will only need to bring a hat, water and sunscreen with NDJCA providing all of the other equipment including a jersey.
