The 2020 Domain Pink Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground started on Friday, January 3, and was all over on day four on Monday, January 6, as Australia treated the home crowd to a 279-run victory.

As usual the McGrath Foundation, together with Cricket Australia, raised awareness of the need for breast care nursing services in Australia at the annual match.

McGrath Foundation co-founder and president, former Australian cricket fast bowler Glenn McGrath, presented the Australian men’s test team with their baggy pink caps for the official team photo before the game and also announced the need for increased funding to address the national shortfall in breast care nurses.

During the past decade the Sydney Pink Test has become a national phenomenon and is the largest sporting fundraising initiative in Australia.

The cricket community, both on and off the field, wear pink as a symbolic show of support for those experiencing breast cancer and raise much needed funds for the McGrath Foundation.

The aim of the Pink Test event is to raise funds to place McGrath breast care nurses in communities across Australia and support the thousands of people experiencing breast cancer every year.

“With 50 Australians diagnosed with breast cancer every day there is critical and continuing need for more McGrath breast care nurses to support families through breast cancer,” said McGrath.

On its website, the McGrath Foundation thanked fans who attended the game and supported the cause from afar.

“On behalf of all of us at the McGrath Foundation, thank you for your support during this year’s Domain Pink Test,” a statement read.

“Through the Domain Pink Test, through your support we raised over $1.2million.

“That will fund nine McGrath breast care nurses who will support almost 1000 families going through breast cancer this year.”

The Narrabri Shire is usually well represented at the event and this year was no different, with community members travelling to Sydney to be part of the wonderful occasion.

Some of those who travelled sent in photos taken at the test match to The Courier.
