Another Tamworth Harness Racing Club meeting – another Narrabri-trained pacer victorious at the Tamworth Paceway.

On Sunday it was Narrabri trainer Jarred Hetherington who was celebrating when Sir Macador stormed away to a 14.3-metre win in the seventh race of the evening.

In the 2360-metre TAB Odds and Evens Pace, Sir Macador started from the number three barrier as the race’s $2 favourite.

The six-year-old gelding, which was driven by Paul Diebet on the night, entered the bottom turn running three wide in second place just after the field passed the home post for the first time.

He quickly established the lead as he made his way to the inside, a position he remained in with two laps remaining in the race.

When the bell sounded to signal that just one lap was left to run Sir Macador was still first.

He was running just two metres ahead of the Gregory Coney-trained, Jemma Coney-driven Are You With Me which started next to Sir Macador on the front line in the four barrier.

With 450 metres left to run Are You With Me had lost ground on Sir Macador as the Narrabri pacer became the clear leader.

He left the final turn leading by about seven metres then kicked home down the final straight to secure the 14.3-metre victory.

That earned Sir Macador the $3120 top prize in what was his second race as a member of the Hetherington stable.

Sir Macador raced for Hetherington for the first time on January five across the same distance at the same venue and placed second.

Sunday’s win was the gelding’s seventh in 51 career starts to go with seven second or third-placed finishes.

Sir Macador was not the only Hetherinton-trained pacer in that race.

Vinnie The Poet was also in action, commencing from the nine barrier in the second row.

Things did not go according to plan for the five-year-old gelding which was driven by Tom Ison on the night as he broke gear and was retired from the race.

There were also two Shepherdson-trained-and-driven pacers which raced on the night.

In race one the Garry Shepherdson-trained, Chris Shepherdson-driven Sumthin Special started in pole position and finished seventh.

Then in the fifth race of the night Future Fun, also driven by Chris Shepherdson for Garry Shepherdson, also finished seventh.

Narrabri trainers Peter and Garry Shepherdson and Jarred Hetherington will all now turn their attention to this evening’s Tamworth Harness Racing Club meeting at the Tamworth Paceway.

Headlining the evening of racing is the 2360-metre Tamworth City Cup in which the Peter-Shepherdson-trained, Chris Shepherdson-driven Kid Montana will take part.

In race seven Peter Shepherdson’s Capital Cullect will be driven by Peter Hedges while Chris Shepherdson will take the reigns of the Garry Shepherdson-trained Future Fun in the same race.

The first Narrabri-trained pacer in action at that meeting will be Corporal Luna which will be driven by Tom Ison for Hetherington in race three.

Races three and seven will both be run across a distance of 1980 metres.
