On June 20, Northwest NSW will see the return of the ‘Battle of Bands’, this time online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following from the successful event at the Crossing Theatre in April 2013 ‘Battle of the Bands for the Northwest’ organiser Angela Pattison with a new team of music lovers decided to bring back the event.

“We wanted to do something for young people in our community who are stuck at home at the moment,” said Angela.

“We thought that bringing back live music from talented locals will be great for the audience, great for the musicians, and great for the community.”

The team of volunteers, with ‘Sober in the Country’ founder Shanna Whan and previous winner and professional musician Sarah Leete, aim to bring together aspiring local musicians in an online battle.

“It will be so cool to see local talent performing original songs, plus their favourite covers,” said Angela.

“And the public will get to vote for a winner, in addition the aspiring musicians receiving input from the professional judging panel.”

Musicians are invited to send in a video of themselves performing at home, and they will be posted online on June 13.

The public and professional judges will then view the videos and pick their favourites.

On June 20, the community will be treated to a night of online entertainment from talented locals, including interviews with the entrants, feedback from the judges, a voter’s prize then the announcement of the winners.

The event will have three categories, best original song, best cover and people’s choice.
