Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club’s 2020 Club Pairs champions crowned

Val Falkiner and Helen Woodward are the Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club Pairs champions for a second consecutive year.

The defending champions took on Eva Sadler and Dawn Armstrong at the Narrabri Sporties last Thursday in a 2019 final rematch.

Woodward and Falkiner downed Sadler and Armstrong 18-13 in last year’s decider and this year’s was an even tighter contest as the champions defended their title with an 18-17 victory which came down to the final bowl.

It was an extremely close contest from the first end all the way through to the 18th.

With just one bowl left in the match the eventual winners trailed 17-15, however had managed to put themselves in a position where they were holding two shots and were bowling for the win.

Falkiner had her bowl in hand and remained calm as she rolled the final bowl, which she sat right next to the jack.

That saw her team score the three shots it needed to go ahead on the scoreboard and win the contest.

It was a thrilling finish to a matchwhich was even at 6-all on the fifth end, 12-all on the 11th end, 14-all on the 14th end and 15-all on the 16th end.

Other ladies’ bowls results and fixtures are as follows:

Carolynne Tomlinson, Jan Etheridge and Berice Eather beat Marie Redman, Dawn Armstrong and Lyn Wedesweiler 21-14.

Carol Demamiel, Gloria Campey and Kay Carolan had a very close win against Kay Parker, Cindy Neil and Rhonda Welchman 21-19. Welchman’s team led all the way to the 14th end but failed to score over the next five ends with Carolan’s team catching up. The score was 19-all on the 20th end. Carolan’s team scored two on the last end to win the game.

Glennis Godden, Di Chessells and Cecile defeated Val Falkiner, Gail Panton and Eva Sadler 22-15. The score was 14-all on the 15th end but Cecile’s team won five of the last six ends.

Janet Coleman, Debbie Gleeson and Lorraine Scott defeated Ronnie Dewar, Sue Solomon and Helen Woodward 25-13.

Social bowls was played on Thursday:

Carol Demamiel, Gloria Campey, Ronnie Dewar and Cecile defeated Denise Wall, Berice Eather, Di Chessells and Yvonne Hardman 19-11.

Pat Sheils, Glennis Godden, Jan Etheridge and Kay Carolan defeated Olwyn Campey, Marie Redman, Janet Coleman and Lyn Wedesweiler 15-13.

Leslie Price and Lyn Tuckey defeated Heather Caton and Beryl Regan 15-14.

Triples matches set down for Thursday, October 1 are as follows:
Carolynne Tomlinson, Jan Etheridge and Berice Eather v Carol Demamiel, Gloria Campey and Kay Carolan.
Glennis Godden, Di Chessells and Cecile v Janet Coleman, Debbie Gleeson and Lorraine Scott.

Namoi District Triples will be played in Narrabri on Saturday and Sunday.
