Police from across the shire were joined by visiting police, community representatives and members of local emergency services at Narrabri’s National Police Remembrance Day service yesterday.

The moving ceremony in the St Cyprian’s Church grounds was hosted by Narrabri Police OIC inspector Robert Dunn who read the Police Ode with sergeant Darren Wallington MC for the event with the service led by Anglican minister Reverend Bernard Gabbott.

The memorial tribute was attended by a small group of participants in observance of pandemic health regulations.

Wreaths were laid and a minute’s silence was observed in memory of police who have died in the line of duty.

The names of those who have passed away in the past year were read by sergeant Scott Bolton and sergeant Alana Straney.

Nationally, the day is a remembrance by police throughout Australia honouring their 274 colleagues whose lives have been cut short while performing their duty as a police officer.

This important day is also a time to remember police officers who have lost their lives through illness or other circumstances.
