Wee Waa Golf Club hosted its highly-anticipated golf trip ambrose on Sunday which was won by local members Will Lavis, Luke Humphries and Chris Hartnett.

They were one of 18 teams which competed in the four-person ambrose event.

They finished the day with 12 under off the stick and the winning score of 53-and-five-eighths nett. That earned all four team members a voucher with Fairway Tours valued at $400 each.

Runners-up were Ty Baker and Kevin Baker, Jay Hall and Toby Reynolds, and placing third were David, Tom and Stephen Avery and Dean Hamblin

Nearest to pin on the ninth was claimed by Hartnett, fifth/14th went to Mark Hennessy and 15th to Russell

Longest drives went to David Avery (A-grade), Dean Hamblin (B-grade), Les Bonney (C-grade) and Sandy Smith (ladies).

Wee Waa Golf Club president David Russell told the Wee Waa News it was great to see so many players compete in the ambrose.

“We had 18 teams so 72 players, it was a great roll up,” Russell said.

“We were going to go to 20 teams but one from Tamworth and one from Gunnedah pulled out so we were happy with the 18.

“It was great to see a lot of people on the course, there were a lot of happy faces.

“There was a mixture of golfers from Wee Waa and Narrabri, it was great.

“It was also a lovely day, the weather was fine. Everything went well.”

The golf trip ambrose replaced the Volkswagen Scramble which was previously one of the biggest events on the Wee Waa Golf Club calendar.

The new event was fully sponsored, which provided a better outcome financially for the club.

Russell thanked the sponsors and said the club was grateful for their support.

Wee Waa Golf Club will host its next major event on Sunday, March 21, which will be the annual Wee Waa Open. The club is expecting its local players to be joined by golfers from Narrabri, Coonabarabran, Bingara and Warialda for the 18-hole event.
