Narrabri Golf Club held its 2020-21 Volkswagen Scramble event on Sunday which was contested by 34 teams.

The winning team included David and Greg Avery, Dean Hamblin and Les Bonney who had 10 under off the stick to record a net total of 53.625.

The second-placed team consisted of Chris Harnett, Luke Humpries, Ben Russell and Les Ross who finished with a score of 55.250.

Both of those teams will now compete in the regional finals at the The Vintage Golf Club located at the Hunter Valley on April 22.

Local events must have a minimum of 108 participants to send two teams, which Narrabri exceeded with 136 players.

The winning team from each regional final qualifies to attend the championship final which will be contested in May or June.

The championship final offers regional final winning teams the chance of a lifetime. The four-day championship final experience includes return economy airfares, four nights accommodation, all inclusive functions, Callaway merchandise and the chance to compete for the title across three rounds (plus a practice round) in tournament conditions.

Placing third were Lee Watson, Micheal Wilson, Mark Noble and Josh Seymour with 56.375, and fourth went to Toby Reynolds, Ty Baker, Wayne Atkins and Blake Brown with 58.375.

Nearest to pin prizes were won by Adam Taylor (fifth hole), David Avery (eighth hole), Ty Baker (12th hole) and Luke Flood (16th hole).

Men’s long drives were won by Ty Baker (A-grade), Josh Seymour (B-grade) and Todd Farrer (C-grade), while the ladies’ long drive was claimed by Lou Penberthy.

Golf will continue in Narrabri this week.

Tomorrow, there will be an 18-hole ladies’ stableford competition and there will also be a nine-hole vets comp.

On Saturday, the men’s and ladies’ monthly medal events will be contested and on Sunday a stableford will be played.

Golfers must phone ahead for all competition and social golf to book a tee time.
