Narrabri Amateur Fishing Club’s annual Narrabri Carp Muster will go ahead this Saturday and Sunday, March 6 and 7, with $20,000 in prizes up for grabs.
It will be the first time the event, which is one of the most popular on the Narrabri Shire calendar, will go ahead since 2019 after last year’s carp muster was cancelled.
Unlike many other events in 2020, COVID-19 was not the reason for that cancellation.
The event was called off ‘due to the dire state of the Namoi River’ following a unanimous decision at the club’s 2020 annual general meeting.
There has been an abundance of rain since then and the Namoi River is in a much better state.
A big change for the event in 2021 has seen it moved from its former location, The Crossing Theatre, upstream to the Narrabri RSL Club.
The COVID-safe event will begin tomorrow morning and continue until Sunday afternoon.
All participants will be required to sign in using a QR code along with their registrations.
Participants can register to take part in the Narrabri Carp Muster from 8am Saturday up until 11am on Sunday.
The cost has remained the same in 2021 – $6 for adults and $3 for children and pensioners which includes a sausage sandwich and a drink.
The final weigh in will take place at midday on Sunday which will be followed by a presentation.
The Carp Muster’s major prize this year is a boat and motor which will be drawn at the presentation.
To go in the running to win that, participants simply need to catch a carp this weekend.
The more carp each participant catches, the more entries they receive to give them a better chance of winning that major prize.
This year’s event will also host yabby races and casting competitions to keep the kids entertained and there will also be a raffle with prizes including a generator, a kayak and a fridge.
