Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club’s defending Club Singles champion Lorraine Scott is the Namoi District Singles champion for 2021 after winning Sunday’s final at Wee Waa Bowling Club.

Scott won all four of her matches in the competition at the weekend after receiving the round one bye.

In matches played on Saturday, she defeated Moree’s Joan Limb 25-20 before downing her Narrabri clubmate Cindy Neil 25-13 in the quarter-final.

All four of the competition’s semi-finalists were Narrabri Women’s Bowling club members.On Sunday morning, Scott and Eva Sadler won their matches 25-10 and 25-14 against Marie Redman and Debbie Gleeson respectively. Scott then claimed the decider 25-8 against Sadler.

The entire event was hosted by Wee Waa Bowling Club’s artificial green at the weekend.

Eighteen ladies entered the competition at which the winner of each match was the bowler who was the first to reach 25 shots.

No first-round matches were contested after 14 ladies were drawn byes and two more forfeited their opening ties.

The second round was the round of 16 which finally began at 1pm on Saturday afternoon after bowlers were forced to wait for rain to stop.

The round two matches were won by Narrabri’s Cindy Neil, Lorraine Scott, Marie Redman, Eva Sadler and Debbie Gleeson, Wee Waa’s Dorothy Heffernan, Moree’s Ida Muusers and Lightning Ridge’s Heidi Monch.

Neil defeated Wee Waa’s Lisa Pillar 25-21, Scott downed Moree’s Joan Limb 25-20, Heffernan edged out Narrabri’s Lyn Wedesweiler 25-24, Redman beat Lightning Ridge’s Sheila Nagy 25-9, Sadler defeated her Narrabri clubmate Helen Woodward 25-12, Monch downed Wee Waa’s Melissa Allen 27-23 and Muusers and Gleeson benefitted from forfeits.

Round three saw the four quarter-finals contested which were all won by Narrabri bowlers on Saturday afternoon. Scott beat Neil 25-13, Redman outscored Heffernan 25-18, Sadler downed Monch 25-21 and Gleeson defeated Muusers 25-12.

On Sunday morning, Scott and Eva Sadler won their semi-final matches 25-10 and 25-14 against Marie Redman and Debbie Gleeson respectively, then Scott won the final 25-8 against Sadler in an all-Narrabri contest.

Scott will now represent the Namoi District at the Region 3 playoffs which will be contested at South Tamworth from Sunday, July 4, to Wednesday, July 7.

Up next on the Namoi ladies’ bowls calendar are the Open and Seniors Pairs competitions which will be held at Narrabri Sporties on Saturday and Sunday, May 1 and 2.

Scott will compete in the Open division alongside teammate Debbie Gleeson.

She will then team up with her brother Kevin Baguley the following weekend when the duo competes in the Namoi District’s Mixed Pairs event which will be played at Narrabri.
