Probus members met for lunch at the Narrabri RSL Club last week, where their new president was inducted.

On Tuesday, April 20, ex-president David Streeter handed the role over to Gordon Cain.

This marks the second time Mr Cain has been elected to lead the Probus Club, meaning his name will appear twice on the prestigious president’s collar (medal handover pictured).

His nomination was submitted last month, at the club’s annual general meeting, but his duties officially began this week at the members’ lunch when he was sworn in by the outgoing president.

Mr Cain has big plans for the Probus Club and is excited to start work in the role.

“The club was hit quite hard by COVID-19, and even now things haven’t fully bounced back yet,” he said.

“I will endeavour to return the local Probus Club to its former glory.”

Probus meetings take place monthly, accompanied by a guest speaker, and Mr Cain said he looks forward to hosting more member events throughout the year.

“We have plans for a Mother’s Day lunch, as well as an event for Christmas in July,” he said.

“Plus, if there’s enough interest, we’d like to organise a three-day getaway to Newcastle to see the Jersey Boys perform live.”
