The development of Narrabri’s Bunnings project will soon reach a major milestone.

After going to tender for the store’s construction, the company is hoping to appoint the successful bidder in the near future.

Bunnings area manager, John Newell, updated The Courier on the development of the hardware giant’s small format Narrabri store to be located on the Newell Highway.

“We are currently in the process of reviewing building tenders and hope to make an appointment soon,” Mr Newell said.

“We look forward to updating the community as the development progresses.”

The development of the company’s Narrabri store was approved at the December 2020 meeting of Narrabri Shire Council.

Bunnings estimates the store will create approximately 45 team member jobs and an additional 45 jobs during construction.

The site will span over 5000 square metres and feature a main retail area, outdoor nursery, timber and building materials area, as well as parking for more than 80 cars.

As part of the development approval, Bunnings will enter into a voluntary planning agreement to pay a contribution towards upgrades to the intersection of Newell Highway and Saleyards Lane to accommodate an increase in traffic as a result of the store.

While the store will have prominent exposure with its frontage on the Newell Highway, access will predominantly take place from Saleyards Lane.

The company estimates the new store represents an investment of $15 million.
