Wee Waa Bowling Club hosted ladies’ and men’s inter-club competitions on the weekend at which Wee Waa bowlers were victorious on their home green.
On Saturday, Brett Pillar won the Zone 3 Bowls’ men’s State President’s Reserve Singles sectional final and Steve Berger won the State Senior Singles sectional final.
On Sunday, Dorothy and Kay Dewson and Lisa Pillar were crowned 2021 Namoi District ladies’ Triples champions after winning the final against a Narrabri team.
The ladies’ competition was contested across both days on the weekend.
On Saturday, the Wee Waa trio defeated Narrabri’s Marie Redman, Dawn Armstrong and Eva Sadler 16-11 in their quarter-final contest to advance to the semi-final later that afternoon.
In other quarter-final matches, Moree’s Lorraine Bartel, Ida Muusers and Dorothy Heffernan defeated Narrabri’s Helen Woodward, Beryl Regan and Debbie Gleeson 20-17, and Narrabri’s Cindy Neil, Lyn Wedesweiler and Rhonda Welchman downed Lightning Ridge’s Ann Barclay, Aileen Williams and Lyn Carney 28-20, while Narrabri’s Denise Wall, Di Chessells, Lyn Tuckey had the bye.
A Wee Waa and Narrabri team were both victorious in the semi-finals played on Saturday afternoon as Pillar’s team beat Tuckey’s team and Welchman’s team defeated the Moree ladies.
The final was then contested on Sunday which saw Pillar and Dorothy and Kay Dewson defeat Welchman, Neil and Wedesweiler 20-13.
Meanwhile, Brett Pillar and Berger both won all-Wee Waa finals on Saturday.
Only two bowlers played in the Zone 3 Bowls’ State Seniors Singles sectional final at Wee Waa Bowling Club.
Berger defeated clubmate Clancy Hamilton 31-17 across 29 ends in that match.
Berger won six of the first nine ends to establish an 11-4 lead, then by the 20th end he was ahead 20-13.
The two bowlers scored a shot each across the next two ends, but a 4 to Berger on the 23rd end extended his lead to nine points as the score became 25-14.
Six more ends were played, three of which Berger won as he accumulated the six shots he needed to reach the 31-point target as he claimed a 31-17 victory.
Four bowlers, all from Wee Waa, played in the State President’s Reserve Singles sectional final at Wee Waa Bowling Club on Saturday.
Pillar downed Kyne Allen 31-15 in their semi-final, while Dustyn Allen beat Sean Anderson 31-16 in the other.
Pillar then defeated Dustyn Allen 31-20 across 32 ends in the decider.
Allen won three of the first five ends to establish a 5-2 lead, however, Pillar won the next five ends to go ahead 8-5.
He never trailed for the remainder of the contest.
The score was 19-18 to Pillar at the competition of the 24th end before he went on to claim seven of the next eight ends while outscoring Allen 13 points to 2 as he secured a 32-20 victory.
There was only one entrant in the State Singles sectional division at Wee Waa which was Justin Knight who will now travel to Inverell this weekend alongside Berger and Pillar for the zone finals.
