Outside the fowl fancier fraternity it may not be well known that Narrabri has long been a leader in the regional poultry breeding and competitive exhibiting world.

Each year Narrabri Poultry Club holds its poultry show at Narrabri Showground.

Hundreds of pedigree chickens raised by breeders across the North West and beyond are primped and prepared to meet the judges.

This year’s Narrabri Poultry Show on Saturday saw the highest number of entries for years.

Judges worked their way through the many entries in the poultry pavilion, accompanied by a cacophony of cackles, and some quacks – ducks are also included – and spoke highly of the standard of entries.

Poultry breeders come from all walks of life and all age groups, male and female. Tamworth exhibitor Sue McMillan, a nurse, has been a poultry breeder for only six years but took home the major prizes on Saturday.
