Eight community groups across Narrabri Shire have shared in almost $20,000 of funding.

The organisations have received support from Narrabri Shire Council through its 2021/22 Community Grants Fund.

Councillors adopted the allocation of funding at last Tuesday afternoon’s council meeting. Cr Robert Kneale moved the recommendation to distribute funds to the groups.

It was seconded by Cr Lloyd Finlay.

Mayor Ron Campbell congratulated the successful applicants and said council is extremely supportive of community growth and is pleased to be able to support these groups and their proposed projects.

“COVID-related restrictions and uncertainty over the past 16 months has affected the community and community groups alike in terms of limitations on what activities or community projects can be undertaken.

“The Community Grants Fund is an excellent initiative that provides support to eligible Narrabri Shire groups in providing their services, events and programs to the wider community.

“Council has distributed more than $100,000 in the past four years to eligible applicants through the annual Community Grants Fund process – which is a fantastic outcome.”

This year’s funding recipients include:

  • Narrabri Shire Community Radio – $1560 for new studio equipment.
  • Narrabri Arts and Craft Society – $825 for the trimming of trees and hedges.
  • ADFAS Narrabri and North West – $3000 for the group’s 2021/22 program delivery.
  • Kogil Street Preschool – $4500 for a front facia upgrade.
  • Galloping Gully Polocrosse – $2872 for safety fencing and lighting for the clubhouse.
  • Killarney Classic – $1000 for the 2021 Killarney Classic.
  • Eulah Creek Recreation Reserve – $1177 for a mobile phone booster system.
  • Spring Plains Public Hall – $3080 for the 2021 Westpac Rescue Helicopter Ball.

Community grants are funded on a 50/50 basis with council contributing 50 per cent of the identified costs and the applicant contributes the remaining 50 per cent, either through cash or in-kind contributions.

The fund is open once every financial year, with the budget subject to council approval.

Not-for-profit organisations, incorporated community groups, P & C organisations and registered sporting organisations can apply for funding to assist with programmes, events and projects by submitting a completed grant application form within the allocated time frame.

Groups across the shire can check their eligibility for the fund by visiting the Community Grants Fund page on council’s website or contact council on 6799 6866 for more information.
