Any hopes of crowning a 2021 Namoi Soccer League champion could be over this week, without a ball being kicked in the finals series.

Northern NSW Football’s Northern Inland regional co-ordinator Toby McVey met with the three clubs involved in this season’s finals last week via Zoom to provide an update on the current situation.

McVey advised that should any lockdown which affects both or one of the Narrabri and Moree local government areas be extended, the competition’s finals series would be abandoned.

Minor premierships and the first grade golden boot winners would still be awarded, however, no major premiers would be crowned in either grade in 2021.

However, should the lockdowns be lifted and community sport is given the green light to resume, the two preliminary finals and grand finals would go ahead.

The preliminary finals, which would be played at Wee Waa’s Cook Oval, were initially scheduled to be played by Saturday, September 11, but that has been extended to Saturday, September 18.

That means that if grand finals are played, they will be contested at Narrabri’s Hogan Oval on Saturday, September 25.
