Narrabri Shire Council’s Bellata Recreation Precinct plan provides a social and sporting hub for the village which includes a new playground, multi-sport court for tennis, basketball and cricket and a camping area.

Mayor Ron Campbell said council was focused on providing local communities large and small with access to facilities and services to increase social connectivity and accessibility.

“Our aim is for all towns and villages in Narrabri Shire to have at least one quality meeting place to facilitate social gathering which in turn encourages active, healthy lifestyles,” Cr Campbell said.

Council consulted with the Bellata community about their needs for the precinct with the aim to enhance existing recreation areas where people can pursue sport, use the play equipment and enjoy a picnic with shade and seating available.

Funding of $291,211 for the project was granted through the state and federal governments.

“Council acknowledges that strong communities are those that have opportunities to connect socially,” Cr Campbell said.

“Recreation and sport is proven to build strong and connected communities.

“We want to provide an attractive recreational and social area for locals and visitors to enjoy.”

The first element of the precinct is a new playground that has been completed, with a multi-sport court currently being built.

“This will be followed by a parking turnaround area and landscaping.”

The Bellata Recreation Precinct is centrally located adjacent to Bellata Golf Club, public school and town oval.

The location provides residents with an inclusive community hub and a relaxing area for travellers.
