As Narrabri emerged out of an almost five-week lockdown last Thursday, bowls in areas of regional NSW that are no longer under stay-at-home orders were given the green light to recommence.

Local bowlers made the most of the chance to return to the local green on Saturday as the Narrabri Sporties’ John McNamara Owen Campey Green hosted an afternoon of Russian Roulette Bowls.

The Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club’s 2021 season will return this Thursday while the Narrabri Sporties’ men’s season will re-commence this weekend.

On Saturday, each player was given a card with their player number on it. This card also let them know which green they were to play on and which player number they were playing with.

Each game consisted of six ends, after which the players moved to the next rink on their card and played another six ends. This was played across three games.

David Briggs was the overall winner and the only player to win all three games. He finished the afternoon’s play with a score of 66.

Tony Redman was runner-up with two wins and a score of 55, while in third place was Marie Redman with two wins and a score of 54. The Bradman went to Anthony Welchman on 24 points.

Other players to score two wins were Laurie Gilbert, Dave Dewar and John Hand, while Joyce Briggs, Clancy Hamilton and Scott Dewar each had a win and a draw, and Di Chessells, Bruce Tomlinson, Rhonda Welchman,

Olwyn Campey and Helen Woodward had one win each.
