Wee Waa Bowling Club hosted four Consistency Singles matches on the Norman Sweetman Green across the weekend, seeing Peter Doring, Dustyn Allen, Bruce Cowan, and the club’s 2021 A-grade Singles champion Toby Reynolds all progress to the next round of the competition.

On Saturday, Reynolds defeated Ross Smith 153-133, Allen downed Sean Anderson 150-105, and Doring outscored Clancy Hamilton 157-99 before Cowan beat Gary Nolan 153-129 on Sunday.

Reynolds gave up a 15-shot handicap start to Smith in their match, and the veteran Smith led the youngster from the first end until the 23rd.
Smith led by as many as 39 shots after scoring a 10 on the ninth end to go ahead 51-12.

Reynolds fought back and reduced that deficit to six points by the 20th end after outscoring Smith 70-37 across a 10-end stretch.

That deficit became two points when Reynolds scored a 7-3 on the 22nd end before hitting the lead with another 7-3 on the 23rd.

Reynolds never lost another end and eventually claimed a 20-shot victory as he reached 153 points after 31 ends of play.

Anderson also went into his match with a handicap as he gave up nine shots to Allen. However, unlike Reynolds, Anderson was unable to bowl his way into a lead.

Allen led 18-3 after three ends of play, then 34-17 after six. He held that 17-shot lead for the next three ends after both bowlers scored a five on each.

Anderson reduced the deficit to nine after the 12th end after he outscored Allen 19-11 across a three-end stretch. However, Allen immediately gained the ascendancy by outscoring his opponent 53-20 across the next eight ends to lead 113-72 after 20.

The score was 140-95 after 25 ends of play before it wrapped up after the 27th after the two bowlers traded a 9-1 as Allen claimed a 150-105 win.

When Doring and Hamilton met in their match, the two bowlers scored five each on the first end before Doring established a lead he would never surrender.

He outscored Hamilton 7-3 on the second end to go ahead 12-8 before he eventually won the match 157-99 after 26 ends.

Doring only lost five of those 26 ends and won 16 while five were tied 5-all.

On Sunday, Cowan started with a handicap as he gave up 15 shots to his opponent Nolan.

Cowan hit the positives after four ends but still found himself trailing 26-2.

Nolan led 50-28 after nine ends of play, however, Cowan reduced that deficit to two points after 15 ends as Nolan clung on to a 75-73 lead. The leader then scored a 6-4 on the 16th end before Cowan hit the lead with an 8-2 on the 17th to establish an 83-82 advantage.

Cowan never trailed again as he outscored Nolan 72-47 across the next 12 ends to win the contest 155-129 after 29.
