Narrabri Shire Council’s 2021 Christmas Activation will feature lights and decorations across the Narrabri, Boggabri and Wee Waa townships, highlighting the organisation’s commitment to ensuring there is plenty of community spirit leading up to the festive season.

General manager Stewart Todd said council is committed to supporting local businesses and the community following the impact of years of drought and the global COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our aim is to have an inviting and vibrant retail sector that encourages more trade and patronage during the busiest time of year,” he said.

Funded through the Australian government’s Murray-Darling Basin Economic Development Program, the festive initiative was developed following extensive consultation with local businesses, business associations and feedback from the 2020 Retail Revamp.

Mr Todd said the aim of the 2021 Christmas Activation is to have a structure in place to promote local businesses during the annual festive season.

“We want to add Christmas cheer and brighten up our towns across the shire in addition to the annual banner installations,” he explained.

“We anticipate this is something that will be in place for future festive seasons that will enhance town centres for a long time.”

The 2021 Christmas Activation business improvement program will operate alongside a Christmas Pop Up Shop in the heart of Narrabri which will feature small business owners, artisans and
creatives.

“It will operate like an indoor market in a prominent vacant space providing opportunity for a range of businesses,” Mr Todd said.

“The Christmas Pop Up Shop provides an excellent opportunity to support new business establishment and for home-based businesses to trial trading in a retail space.

“It also provides extra room for existing businesses to extend their Christmas retail and business promotion in a main street location at the busiest time of year.”

The Christmas Pop Up Shop will operate throughout December at no cost to stallholders.

This project was funded by the Australian government under the Murray–Darling Basin Economic Development Program.
