Narrabri Shire Council election candidates will have the opportunity to outline their election platforms at a ‘Meet the Candidates’ forum at The Crossing Theatre on Wednesday night, November 17.
The public forum has been convened by Narrabri Chamber of Commerce.
“We are inviting the 23 council candidates to the event and urge interested members of the community to come along, meet candidates and hear their platforms,” said chamber president Russell Stewart who will chair the event.
“The forum will be an opportunity for candidates to outline their aims for the next four year term and for the community to hear from them first hand.”
The large number of candidates underlines the level of interest in the future direction of the council and community, Mr Stewart said.
“People have never been more interested in ensuring we have quality leadership and governance as the shire moves ahead. I believe this is the first local government election in Narrabri Shire which has been contested by candidate groups.
“The chamber felt it was very important for electors to know who the candidates are and what they stand for and has initiated the forum as a community information event.
“Everyone interested is invited to attend. The forum begins at 7pm.
“Please use this opportunity to learn more about the aspirations of our future councillors,” Mr Stewart said.
“The forum will provide the opportunity for ratepayers to hear from candidates and follow their subsequent local government roles in the context of undertakings made if elected.”
Mr Stewart said each candidate will be invited to make a five minute address.
“Following the addresses from each candidate there will be some time for questions,” he said.
