The fundraising success of the Pink Up Namoi campaign has been further bolstered thanks to a pink champagne breakfast held at the Tourist Hotel on Sunday morning.

Organisers anticipate more than $15,000 was raised, at the KR Property sponsored event, towards the shire-wide initiative.

Guests were greeted with champagne on arrival for the gourmet breakfast which featured NSW Minister for Mental Health, Regional Youth and Women, Bronnie Taylor as the special guest and keynote speaker.

Mrs Taylor’s visit was even more poignant given her previous role as a nurse with the McGrath Foundation.

She touched on her own personal journey as a breast care nurse.

“You could truly feel how much love and care this community has for their town and each other,” Mrs Taylor said of the pink breakfast.

Mrs Taylor praised the event’s attendees and made particular mention of Pink Up Namoi organiser Karen Kirkby.

“What you’ve done in this community and in this town, not only speaks volumes about you but everybody here,” Mrs Taylor told Ms Kirkby at the breakfast.

Mrs Taylor was invited to attend Sunday’s breakfast by one of the event’s organisers, Jocellin Jansson.

Ms Jansson thanked Mrs Taylor for her “supreme effort” in finding a way into Narrabri.

“Floods were no deterrent; you simply found another way and we’re so pleased you did,” Ms Jansson said.

“You were a fabulous guest speaker and everyone really appreciated hearing your experiences and insights as a McGrath Foundation breast care nurse, ahead of entering parliament.”

Ms Jansson served as master-of-ceremonies at Sunday’s proceedings, and prior to inviting Mrs Taylor to speak, asked Jacqui Warnock to the dais to recite a poem relating to breast cancer.

Later in the morning, competitive bidding took place for the highly sought after auction items on offer.

Auctioneer, and well-known local real estate agent, Kim Rozendaal, of KR Property, led the successful auction which in itself raised more than $11,000.

Mrs Rozendaal left no stone unturned, even successfully auctioning the flower pot decorations placed on the tables. The flowers and table decorations were an exquisite touch to the event which was overseen by a group of friends consisting of Ms Jansson and Mrs Rozendaal as well as Liz Campbell, David Pierce, Helen Dugdale, Jane Williams, Dylan Smith and Eden Rozendaal.

The event was auspiced by the Rotary Club of Narrabri.
