Emergency services responded to a flood rescue at Maules Creek Road on Friday, December 3.

Narrabri Fire and Rescue were responded to assist NSW SES Narrabri Unit and specialised swift water rescue teams from FRNSW with a person reported trapped in floodwater after attempting to drive through a flooded causeway on the road.

Firefighters assisted swift water rescue technicians access the casualty by transporting them through a flooded causeway utilising a 4×4 tanker approximately one-kilometre from the incident.

Technicians waded through 600mm of water where they found a SUV had stalled after becoming entangled in a downed barbed wire fence preventing the vehicle from being restarted after water was introduced into the vehicle’s running system.

Narrabri Fire and Rescue said the incident is a timely reminder for the public to obey road closures signs and refrain from driving through floodwater no matter how mild the conditions may seem on the surface.

“Potholes, washouts and foreign objects are easily concealed in floodwater placing the occupants at risk of harm or death,” the service advised.
