Forensic evidence has linked a teenager to alleged crimes in Wee Waa.
The 14-year-old boy was charged in relation to the assault of an elderly man in the community last year.
About 1.15am on Monday, August 30, 2021, an elderly man was in his home on Warrior Street when he was awoken and heard noises coming from inside the property.
Police will allege the man was confronted by two unknown people before he was pushed in the chest, causing him to fall.
The unknown pair fled the scene and the man contacted emergency services.
The man was uninjured, however, damage was caused to the premises and several items were taken, including a small amount of cash.
Officers attached to Oxley Police District attended and established a crime scene at the time of the incident.
Police located a number of items at the premises – including a knife, an axe, and a t-shirt – which were seized for forensic examination.
Following ongoing inquiries, about 4.40pm on Monday, January 31, the 14-year-old boy was arrested at a home on Charles Street, Wee Waa.
He was taken to Wee Waa Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of aggravated break and enter dwelling in company steal.
The boy was refused bail and appeared at a children’s court on Tuesday.
Bail was refused and he will appear in Moree Children’s Court on March 28.
Police will further allege at 8pm on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, the boy and a second male forced entry to a unit block on Mitchell Street, Wee Waa, and entered a unit, before leaving a short time later taking cash.
No one was at the premises at the time of the incident, however, damage was caused to the door of the building and inside the unit.
