Free pool entry, a delicious barbecue lunch and a monster island set up at the Narrabri Aquatic Centre outdoor pool were enjoyed by children nearing the end of their school holiday season on Wednesday, February 2.

Despite a drizzly, humid day, the turnout for the fun event, organised by NDCAS community development worker Kayla Nehrkorn, was a great success and a key contributor to the aim of Narrabri & District Community Aid Service and the Women’s Domestic Violence Court

Advocacy Services – to bring about awareness of the services they both offer to the Narrabri Shire community with domestic and family violence.

A vital new service was brought to the Narrabri and Wee Waa areas last year with the appointment of Fran Price in the role of court advocacy worker with WDVCAS.

This was the first time such a role has been allocated to the Narrabri district, a venture initiated by Tamworth Family Support Services and administered by Legal Aid, specifically aiming to assist women in remote areas.

Fran Price supports and advocates for women and their children seeking information and help about domestic and family violence and how to obtain protection from the court, providing a crucial link to those in need with various services available.

The objective of increasing the profile of NDCAS and WDVCAS by welcoming families to events such as this is something Kayla and Fran look forward to in the future.

“We were really happy with the turnout, considering the weather,” Kayla said.

“The pool staff were so helpful and supportive of NDCAS and WDVCAS, and the children were well-mannered and an absolute delight to have around”.
