Four teams remain alive in Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club’s 2022 season Club Pairs competition following the recent quarter-final matches.

Three of those were played at the Narrabri Bowling Club last Thursday where Eva Sadler and Lisa Pillar beat Heather Caton and Cecile 22-11, Glennis Godden and Di Chessells downed Jan Etheridge and Janet Coleman 22-12, and Marie Redman and Rhonda Welchman beat Ronnie Dewar and Berice Eather 17-11.

The fourth round of eight match was contested on Saturday. In a very close match, Cindy Neil and Sue Solomon edged out Lorraine Scott and Debbie Gleeson 14-13.

Gleeson and Scott led until the 11th end when Neil and Solomon made the score 7-all.
Gleeson and Scott then scored four shots across the next two ends to establish an 11-7 lead, but Solomon and Neil scored a four on the 14th end to even the score again at 11-all.

With one end to play, Scott and Gleeson were leading the match 13-12. But Solomon and Neil had the final say as they scored two shots on the last end to win the game 14-13.

One game of ladies’ social bowls was played last Thursday,

Carolynne Tomlinson, Lyn Tuckey and Yvonne Hardman defeated Dawn Armstrong, Rhonda Fitzgerald and Janice Foxe 21-12.

The Narrabri Bowling Club’s men’s season also continued on Saturday.

In a Club Fours game, David SlackSmith, Scott Dewar, Graham Rose and Trinity Kelly defeated Bob Cantrill, Trevor Dean, Len Ryan and Norm Walford 16-13.

Walford’s team led until the 14th end. Kelly’s team then tied up the score at 11-all on the 15th end, and then on the 18th the score was 13-all. Kelly’s team won the last three ends to win the game by three shots.

In Major Singles, David Field won by forfeit against Rob Wolters and he then played against Tony Redman in the quarter-final.

That game was very close, with the score even nine times throughout the game. Field led 24 shots to 23 on the 34th end, but Redman then claimed the next four ends to win the game 33-24 after 38 ends of play.

The other quarter-final matches were won by David Dewar, Kevin Baguley and Norm Walford.

Dewar defeated Laurie Gilbert 31-18 after 29 ends, Baguley downed Paul Crutcher 31-23 across 32 ends, and Walford beat Trinity Kelly 31-29 after 36 ends.

Walford led that match 25-9 after 21 ends, but Kelly fought back and claimed eight of the next nine ends to even the score at 26-all after 30 ends of play. Walford reached 31 shots six ends later to win the match by just two points.

There was also one Veteran Singles match contested on Saturday, which saw Larry Scott and Steve Daskey enjoy a close game.

Daskey led until the 15th end when Scott scored a four to go in front. The score was even on the 35th end at 26-all, before Scott scored five shots to two across the next four ends to win the match 31-28.

The ladies’ and men’s seasons will continue this week.

The first semi-final of the Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club’s 2022 Pairs competition will be contested this Thursday, July 7, as Eva Sadler and Lisa Pillar take on Glennis Godden and Di Chessells.

The second semi-final will then be played this Saturday, July 9, when Marie Redman and Rhonda Welchman challenge Cindy Neil and Sue Solomon.

The winners of those two matches will meet in the final.

Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club will also host a trophy day for bowlers this Thursday, July 7.

Meanwhile, Narrabri Bowling Club’s 2022 men’s season will continue on Saturday, July 9.

The Major Singles semi-finals will be played at 9.30am. Fixtures are as follows:
Kevin Baguley v David Dewar (marker – Laurie Gilbert), Norm Walford v Tony Redman (marker – Trinity Kelly).

A semi-final of the Veteran Singles comp will then be played at 1pm:
Tony Redman v Kevin Baguley (marker – Ian Macmillan).
