The Narrabri Local Aboriginal Land Council held a NAIDOC flag-raising ceremony on Monday, July 4 along with a delicious morning tea and celebrations at the NLALC premises in Barwan Street.

It was the first celebration for more than two years due to COVID restrictions.

The flag was officially raised by Michael and Eddie Trindall, traditional Gomeroi owners and former Narrabri councillor Les Knox.

Leading the week’s festivities, chief executive officer Lynn Trindall said the event was a wonderful opportunity for the community to open NAIDOC Week in Narrabri.

The NLALC is traditionally first off the rank with other community events following suit throughout the week.

“Attendees travelled to Narrabri from other community groups and from as far as Pilliga”, said Mrs Trindall.

“The NAIDOC theme this year ‘Get up! Stand Up! Show up!’ expresses all for the betterment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People”.

The NLALC will be postponing their usual NAIDOC family fun day which focuses on the children, for warmer weather in September.
