Narrabri Bowling Club and Wee Waa Bowling Club will be represented at Bowls NSW’s 2022/23 season women’s state pennant playoffs next month after they were victorious at regional level in Narrabri last week.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, October 11 and 12, Narrabri Bowling Club hosted the Region 3 Playoffs, which saw Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club play in division three and team up with Wee Waa bowlers in division four.

Three teams played at the regional level in each division, and it was the team that ranked highest on the respective ladders that progressed to the state playoffs.

In division three, Narrabri was joined by West Tamworth and Inverell, and in division four, the Narrabri/Wee Waa side was joined by Gunnedah and Glen Innes.

The hosts’ division three team included Cecile, Marie Redman, Lyn Wedesweiler, Cindy Neil, Ronnie Dewar, Di Chessells, Helen Woodward and Eva Sadler. They played their first game of the playoffs on Tuesday afternoon when they took on West Tamworth.

West Tamworth entered that clash having beaten Inverell earlier that day and would have qualified for the state playoffs with a win against Narrabri in game two.

However, the Narrabri ladies were too good as they prevailed 39 shots to 30 overall and won both rinks to claim all five points on offer and move to the top of the three-team leaderboard.

Redman, Cecile, Wedesweiler and Neil won their game 18 shots to 12, while Dewar, Chessells, Woodward and Sadler edged out their opponents 21 shots to 20.

The local ladies returned to the Narrabri Bowling Club on Wednesday morning, where they took on Inverell.

While the visitors won the contest with an overall 41 shots to 38 victory, Narrabri managed to secure a crucial point by winning one of the two rinks.

Dewar, Chessells, Woodward and Sadler prevailed 22 shots to 13 on their rink while Redman, Cecile, Wedesweiler and Neil went down 28 shots to 16 on theirs.

The results of the three games saw Narrabri finish on top of the leaderboard with six points, one point ahead of second-placed Inverell and two clear of third-placed West Tamworth.

The Narrabri/Wee Waa side that played in division four qualified far more comfortably after it won both of its games on Tuesday.

The Narrabri/Wee Waa team included Narrabri bowlers Mary Wheeler, Kay Carolan, Debbie Gleeson and Lorraine Scott, as well as current Narrabri and former Wee Waa bowler Lisa Pillar and Wee Waa trio Melissa Allen and Kay and Dot Dewson.

They won their first game of the playoffs against Gunnedah on Tuesday morning when the hosts outscored the visitors 46 shots to 39 overall.

Allen, the Dewson duo and Pillar won 30 shots to 18 on their rink, while Wheeler, Carolan, Gleeson and Scott were outscored 21 shots to 16 on theirs.

That saw Narrabri/Wee Waa pick up four points and Gunnedah earn one.

The victorious Narrabri and Wee Waa bowlers then made it two from two with a crushing victory against Glen Innes that afternoon to secure qualification to the state playoffs.

The hosts scored a 70 shots to 23 win on the overall scoreboard after Wheeler, Carolan, Gleeson and Scott won their rink 34 shots to 14, and Dewson, Allen, Dewson and Pillar won theirs 36 shots to nine.

That result saw Narrabri/Wee Waa move to nine points on the three-team ladder and create an unassailable lead.

The two victorious Region 3 teams will now play in the Bowls NSW State Pennant Playoffs from Friday to Sunday, November 18 to 20.

The division three playoffs will be held at Bomaderry, and the division four playoffs will be played at Valentine and Marks Point.
