A fortnight after celebrating the first treble of his career, Narrabri harness racing trainer Jarred Hetherington returned to the winners’ circle at the Tamworth Paceway last Thursday.

It was a familiar partnership that got the job done as Tamworth’s Jemma Coney drove Miss Maravu home to victory in the ninth and final race of the afternoon.

Coney had driven Miss Maravu for the third leg of Hetherington’s treble earlier this month, and her victory on the five-year-old mare on Thursday was her sixth in total as reinswoman on the Narrabri horse.

Miss Maravu wore the number five saddlecloth in the 1609-metre Bell Partners Tamworth Autumn Pace and started the race from the number four barrier on the front line.

She took off quickest alongside the Margot Lennox-trained and Andrew Bourke-driven mare Miss Ciriello and the pair established themselves as the two frontrunners.

Miss Ciriello had the inside lane for the entire run and went into the final lap just three metres ahead of Miss Maravu when the bell sounded.

The two mares entered the home straight well ahead of the rest of the pack after breaking away with 400 metres left to run, Miss Ciriello held a narrow lead with 50 metres left but Miss Maravu got in front and won by half a ahead after storming home quickest.

She earned $ 5184 in prizemoney as a result of that victory, which was her fourth in 10 starts this year and her ninth for the Narrabri trainer in 41 starts.

Her winning mile rate of 1:57.4 was the quickest she has recorded in those nine victories.

Fellow Hetherington-trained mare SomethingaboutLexy also lined up in that race. She started just outside her stablemate in the number six saddlecloth and was driven by Jack Buckman to a sixth-placed finish.

Another Narrabri-trained pacer was in action earlier in the day and came within two metres of victory.

That was the Garry Shepherdson- trained Flirts Diva, which was driven by Narrabri’s Chris Shepherdson to a second-place finish in the 1609-metre

The Pub – Drive of the Day Pace in race four.

That race was also won by Coney as she drove Knight Walker to victory for her father Greg.

Hetherington-trained mare Sahara Jewel was driven to ninth by Buckman in that race.
