The Wee Waa branch of the Inner Wheel club hosted a Mexican fiesta on March 19 to raise money for a hospital to help improve the medical care of women and children in Nepal.

Jeff and Jenny Parish kindly hosted the club’s popular and annual international fundraising event at their home ‘Carrera’.

“We had a great day,” said Wee Waa Inner Wheel branch vice-president and international officer Jenny Parish.

Mrs Parish welcomed close to 60 people into her home for the luncheon and she delivered a short but meaningful speech about Inner Wheel and the important cause the club was raising money for at the gathering.

“We are proud to belong to an organisation which aims to promote true friendship, encourages the ideals of personal service, and fosters international understanding worldwide,” she said.

Mrs Parish said funds would go towards helping Dr Ray Hodgson, a gynaecologist from Port Macquarie, build a hospital for women and children in Nepal.

“Thanks to Dr Ray’s charitable foundation, lives are being saved in remote Nepal,” said Mrs Parish.

“His foundation began in 2015 when he visited Nepal to lend a hand with his medical expertise and reunite with his daughter who was already working there.

“Dr Ray Hodgson has been travelling to Nepal for nearly a decade using his medical expertise to help women with the often socially stigmatising condition of uterine prolapse.

“This affects an estimated ten per cent of the country’s population.

“It is a very worthwhile foundation – so please know your support today is supporting a beneficial cause.

“We thank you sincerely.”
