Lorraine Scott and Lyn Tuckey were crowned Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club champions last Thursday when they both prevailed in finals matches at the Narrabri Bowling Club’s John McNamara Owen Campey Green.

Scott claimed the Millie Baguley Memorial Trophy, which is namedafter her late mother, after winning the consistency singles final 154-127 against Helen Woodward, and Tuckey won the minor singles final when she edged out Berice Eather 25-23.

Both matches were contested across 29 ends.

Scott had to give up nine shots to Woodward in the consistency singles final and she made those up in two ends after she scored four shots on the first and five shots on the second.

Woodward led 11-0 at that stage, but two seven shots to three ends either side of a five shots all end saw Scott reduce the deficit to three after five ends of play as the scoreboard read 22-19.

However, Woodward fired back to claim the sixth end 10 shots to zero to stretch that lead out to 13.

Scott had wrestled her way back to within one shot of the lead on the 14th end as Woodward led 66-65, and she hit the lead for the first time at the completion of the 15th end when she scored six shots to Woodward’s four.

She would never trail again as she held the lead for the rest of the match.

Scott went on a dominant five-end run after taking the lead as she outscored Woodward 36 shots to 14 from the 16th end to the 20th to establish a 107-84 advantage.

Woodward had reduced her deficit to 13 shots three ends later after she fought back and outscored Scott 20 shots to 10 to make the score 117-104.

However, Scott scored 27 shots to 13 across the next four ends to establish a 144-117 lead.

Woodward took the next end six shots to four, but Scott reached 150 during the 29th end when she scored six shots to four to win the match 154-127.

In the minor singles decider, Tuckey took an early lead when she scored a single shot on the first end before Eather equalised on the second end and went ahead 2-1 on the third.

Tuckey then went on a three-end run, during which she scored six shots to make the score 7-2, but Eather then went on a three-end run of her own to pile on seven shots and go ahead 9-7 after nine ends of play.

The lead continued to see-saw as Tuckey claimed the next four ends to establish a 13-9 advantage.

Eather scored one shot on the 14th end to move to 10 points, but Tuckey responded with three across the next two ends to make the score 16-10.

That six-shot leading margin was the largest of the game up to that point, and it prompted a swift response from Eather, who scored seven shots to Tuckey’s one across the next three ends to level the score at 17-all after 19 ends of play.

Eather then hit the lead with a two on the 20th end, and she then led 21-17 after 22 ends and 23-20 after 25 ends.

But Tuckey stormed home strongest to win the match by two shots as she outscored Eather five shots to zero across the next four ends, which made the final score 25-23.

Ladies’ social bowls was also played last Thursday when Cecile and Carol Demamiel beat Carolynne Tomlinson and Di Chessells 25-8, and Eva Sadler played swinging lead with Dawn Armstrong and Mary Wheeler to defeat Trish Allison and Val Falkiner 25-11.

Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club will host a trophy day this Thursday, April 20.
