Boggabri and District Rugby League Football Club celebrated family day with three tough games against its arch-rivals, the Gunnedah Bulldogs, at Jubilee Oval on Saturday.

A vocal, capacity crowd filled the grounds anticipating a hard and fast game of football.

While both towns fought it out on the field, their families and especially the children enjoyed the organised family day activities.

There was a jumping castle, as well as cup-cakes, running races, prizes, sweets and slices.

The well-stocked canteen with steak and sausage sandwiches, cold drinks and hot coffee also got a work out.

The day definitely wasn’t without its hiccups.

First, there was the power outage from 8.30am to 4.30pm. However, it was sorted with a generator that was hired from Narrabri Shire Council.

The ref was then unable to attend at the last moment, but in true sporting spirit, the two clubs sorted it out and went on to entertain the crowd.

A highlight of the family day was when club president Greg Haire was joined by Craig Summers to present Stacie Hobden with the proceeds of the club’s fundraising day for Liam Hobden in April.

Liam has a rare genetic disease, Friedreich’s ataxia, which causes progressive damage to his nervous system.

The $7200 that was raised will go towards helping Liam travel over to Bangkok for treatment. There is no treatment available in Australia, and Liam has been accepted into a trial in Thailand for stem cell therapy.
