Narrabri Netball Association’s senior competition teams have reached the halfway mark of their regular seasons after the Bev Burrows Courts hosted round seven matches on Saturday.
A highly-anticipated grand final rematch and top-of-the-table clash did not go ahead after Fever forfeited to the Tourist Tornadoes.
The Tornadoes entered the weekend on top of the table, two points ahead of Fever, and the defending champs’ lead was extended to four points as a result of their forfeit victory.
Another match did not go ahead in round seven as Fever 2.0 forfeited against The Flames.
The Flames moved up to eight points alongside Fever as they finished the weekend in third.
The game that did go ahead saw Hail Mary’s score their first victory of the year as they defeated the Pharmacy Flamingos 35-19.
That saw Hail Mary’s climb off the bottom of the seven-team ladder into sixth as they overtook the Flamingos.
All Nets had the bye in round seven and are fourth at the halfway point of the campaign, while Fever 2.0 is still fifth.
There were also two forfeits in the B-grade competition as two of the four games went ahead on Saturday.
The top-ranked teams played as the ladder leaders, Hairy GOATs, downed third-placed side Hot Shots 46-22, and second-placed Golfie Grubs beat fourth-placed Baxter Babes 57-16.
None of the teams on the bottom half of the ladder played in round seven as Wrecking Ballers forfeited to Firebirds and Wilga Warriors forfeited to Blue Diamonds.
All four junior competition matches went ahead earlier in the day, which were headlined by a top-of-the-table clash in the under-11/12 division.
Wee Waa sides C and W Firebirds and Namoi Cotton Thunderbirds went head-to-head after both entered the weekend locked on eight points.
The Firebirds moved into outright first place after scoring a 20-11 victory and the Thunderbirds were forced to settle for second.
Swifts beat Giants 13-11 in the other under-11/12 contest.
The fourth-placed Swifts are now just two points behind third-placed Giants, while Lightning are still last after they sat out with the bye.
There were also two matches played in round six of the under-9/10 comp on Saturday.
Diamonds scored their fifth victory of the season when they outscored third-placed Sapphires 6-3 to stay on top of the table, while second-placed Rubies are still just one win behind Diamonds after beating Valley Vixens 4-0.
Narrabri Netball Association’s 2023 season will break for the next three weekends and the second half of the season will then get underway on Saturday, July 22.
