Shared Table came together to celebrate their hardworking team of volunteers with a well-deserved Christmas lunch on Tuesday, December 4.
Debbie Smith has been with Shared Table for four years, starting in the kitchen for their weekly lunch, and then settling into the important role of hamper coordinator.
“We celebrated all our birthdays as well, normally we get together for morning tea but this year we’re doing something different,” said Ms Smith.
“Our team is busy working every day now heading up to Christmas, so we’re excited to go to lunch together.”
The 21 volunteers were ramping up for a big week, with the Shared Table community Christmas lunch on Friday, as well as their Christmas hamper drop, coming up on Friday, December 15.
“We love what we do, but we’ve had a very busy year,” said Ms Smith.
“There is such a need in the community, and so many people are struggling,”
There are many people the team would love to thank, including the whole team and committee. Shared Table is thankful for the support of the community, with who it feels lucky to work alongside.
“We are so blessed, we have a generous community and everyone from home gardeners, grocery stores and farmers bring in their excess produce to share with those in need,” said Ms Smith.
“We’ve even had the high school kids come over through their Kindness Initiative, and they’ve been collecting food and toys for our Christmas hampers.”
“Everyone knows us and what we do, and we’re lucky to be well-connected to the wider community.”
