Rainfall gauges across parts of the district filled fast for some residents during Tuesday night’s heavy downpour.

Measurements close to 100mm were reported at locations on the outskirts of Narrabri, while towns and villages a little further afield reported little to no rainfall.

One Narrabri resident said they had received 84mm in just over an hour, and due to the nature of the rainfall, said the proper reading may have been higher.

“It has been a long time since we had a downpour like that,” they told The Courier.

Another Narrabri resident said they had recorded 65mm in their home gauge.

Officially, the Bureau of Meteorology recorded 32.8mm at its weather station at Narrabri Airport.

Locations around the North West missed out on the downpour, with Gunnedah recording just 0.2mm overnight, Moree 1.6mm and Coonabarabran recording no rainfall.
