Bride wore white satin and lace

The marriage took place between Helen Marjorie, only daughter of Mr and Mrs VR Tomlinson of ‘Clifton’, Bellata, and Gordon Kenneth, youngest son of Mrs A Cain and the late WE Cain, ‘Merleville’, Narrabri, on December 14, 1963 at St Cyprian’s Church of England.

The marriage was performed by Archdeacon FS Young of Tamworth, who had christened both bride and groom when he was stationed at Narrabri.

The bride’s gown was a white satin, straight, strapless frock with train and a guipure lace three-quarter sleeved jacket trimmed with tiny pearls.

The train was attached with a cummerbund and trimmed with guipure motifs attached with pearls, while the cummerbund was trimmed with two large handmade roses.

A large single rose held the embroidered three-tiered veil.

Bride’s attendants were Gwen Frater (Binnaway), Ruth Tomlinson (Manilla), Jeanette Johnson (Sydney) and the flower girl was Debbie Smith (Narrabri).

Attending the groom were Martin Coleman (Narrabri) and the bride’s brothers John and Bruce.

The bridesmaids wore deep blue satin ballerinas with a cowl at the back, short sleeve and a high neckline highlighted by blue crystal pendants, which were gifts of the groom.

Their headdresses consisted of tiny circlets of pale blue roses attached to a blue satin bow and covered in blue veiling.

Their bouquets were of pink gladioli and hydrangeas.

The church choir sang for the ceremony, and the pews were decorated with tiny white satin bows, gladioli and roses decked the church and also the Town Hall, where 150 guests attended the reception.

An avocado green princess line frock with matching straight line full length coat and red shoes and bag with green and white hat was the bride’s travelling outfit.

The honeymoon was spent at Surfers Paradise.

The bride’s mother wore a pale blue linen frock and jacket trimmed with matching guipure motifs, pink hat and black accessories.

The groom’s mother wore pleated bone dacron with bone hat and accessories.

Main speakers were Messrs Ken Gibbon and Ted Hitchcock, while the chairman was Archdeacon Young.

The couple will make their home at ‘Merleville’, Narrabri.
