Most households would know, and love, George the Farmer from his fun picture storybooks or musical paddock-to-plate videos, so there was much excitement in town last week when word got around that one of the country’s most-famous farmers had visited the Cotton Capital to film an upcoming project.

Proud of his life on the land, George the Farmer has inspired countless children, from the bush and the city, to learn more about agriculture and where their food and fibre comes from.

Cotton Australia said it has been working with George the Farmer creator Simone Kain to produce a new farming adventure about Australian cotton.

And what better time to visit the Wee Waa district than during cotton picking season.

The entertaining and educational episode, was filmed at the Kahl family’s property last week and is set to be broadcast on George the Farmer’s popular social media channels, spreading the good word about the fabulous fibre and the innovative and sustainable farmers who grow it.

For the shoot, George the Farmer had the chance to chat to the team and family at Merced Farming (much to the delight of its youngest members), take a farm tour, ride in a picker, and he even recorded a song about growing cotton.

To support teachers from Foundation to Year 2, there will be a downloadable guide which teachers can implement into the classroom along with the video to educate students about cotton production while also meeting learning outcomes of subjects such as science, technology, maths and English.

A fantastic opportunity for the cotton industry and the communities it supports, the George the Farmer books, series, videos and content are designed to be fun, educational, and engaging for children, connecting them to the source of their food and fibre, to not only ensure the future prosperity of Australia’s primary industries, but to raise the profile of Australia’s farmers.
