From The Courier – 2000:
Local couple Ron and Jan McKenzie got a little more than they bargained for when they tried to fix a troublesome water pump last month.
The McKenzies had noticed a lack of water pressure from the tap when Ron decided to investigate.
“It hadn’t been working properly for a while,” Ron said.
“So I rang the pump man and he said disconnect it and bring it in and he’d take a look at it.”
It was then that Ron made an interesting discovery about the source of the pump’s problem.
“I undid the pipes and bolts and things and lifted it up.
“As I lifted it up, inside the pump was this long funny-looking thing.
“I got it half out before I realised it was a snake.
“That was the first time I’d had the pump off.
“The interesting thing is, as far as I can see, the only way he could have got in, was the climb a 10 foot ladder and go in the top of the tank.”
Ron took the pump to have it checked out.
