An abundance of action has been unfolding at Narrabri Bowling Club’s John McNamara Owen Campey Green across the past two weeks, headlined by Lisa Pillar, Rebecca Taylor and Janice Foxe becoming the ladies’ club triples champions for the 2024/25 season.
Pillar, Taylor and Foxe outscored Marie Redman, Ronnie Dewar and Helen Woodward 19-8 across 18 ends on Saturday, November 16.
On Thursday, November 14, there were 14 bowlers who competed in a trophy day. The winners were Lyn Tuckey and Helen Woodward, who beat Di Chessells and Tony Redman, scoring 20 points with a margin of six.
The runners-up were Stuart Coleman and Marie Redman after they downed Cecile and a visiting bowler, Tracey Page, scoring 20 points with a margin of three, and the other match saw Berice Eather, Glennis Godden and Steve Daskey play against Rhonda Fitzgerald, Ronnie Dewar and Doug Mackereth.
Two men’s club singles competition matches were contested on Saturday, November 16. Tony Redman defeated Stuart Coleman 25-14 in a quarter-final clash and Dave Dewar downed Richard Little 25-8 in the first semi-final.
Redman will play Dewar in the final after he defeated Graham Rose 25-19 in the second semi-final last Saturday.
Redman led from the start and was ahead 22-15 after 20 ends. He held four shots on the 21st end but Rose played the perfect bowl to pick up the jack and collect four shots himself to make the score 22-19. However, Redman then scored three shots on the 22nd end to win the semi-final clash 25-19.
The final of that competition will be contested on Saturday, December 5.
There were two men’s minor pairs competition semi-final games played last Saturday ahead of this weekend’s final.
Ian Macmillan and Stuart Coleman beat David Briggs and Terry Wilson 25-24 in a nail-biter to advance to the decider. Briggs and Wilson led 23-14 on the 19th end but MacMillan and Coleman scored 11 unanswered shots across the next five ends to go ahead 25-23. Briggs and Wilson claimed the 25th and final end but were only able to score one shot as MacMillan and Coleman held on to prevail 25-24.
The other match was also a tight affair as Bruce Tomlinson and Col Armstrong beat Anthony Welchman and Bill Rosewarn 19-17. Tomlinson and Armstrong were leading 18-11 after 19 ends before Welchman and Rosewarn fought back to claim six unanswered shots across the next five ends to trail by just one shot with one end to play. However, their comeback fell short as Tomlinson and Armstrong scored one on the last end to win 19-17.
Thursday night bowls was held last week and there were 24 players in attendance.
Ian Schweitzer, Dee Fletcher and Lisa Pillar downed Lyn Wedesweiler, Wayne Baker and Keith Stoltenberg 14-11; Lyn Tuckey, John Williams and Kay Carolan outscored Rhonda Fitzgerald, David Slacksmith and Jeff Richards 17-11; Steve Daskey, Michelle Wilkinson and Di Chessells beat Bree Pillar, Shorty Trindall and Janice Foxe 13-9; and Dawn Armstrong, Bruce Tomlinson and Colin Armstrong took down Joyce Briggs, Betty Grove and David Briggs 17-6;
Social bowls was played earlier in the day on Thursday.
In three-bowl pairs matches, Cecile and Stuart Coleman beat Rhonda Fitzgerald and Lyn Tuckey 18-13 while Glennis Godden and Tony Redman downed Ronnie Dewar and Helen Woodward 25-13, and in a three-bowl triples game, Keith Stoltenberg, Doug Mackereth and Di Chessells defeated Steve Daskey, Marie Redman and Berice Eather 26-7.
This week, Narrabri Bowling Club will host the last Thursday morning bowls for the year. A trophy day will be played.
