Boggabri Kangaroos announced their head coaches for the 2025 Group 4 Rugby League season last week, with Shane Rampling locked in for another year at the helm of the club he guided to the decider earlier this year.
Rampling will lead Boggabri’s first grade team again after taking over the role back in 2018 and guiding the Kangaroos from wooden spooners to grand finalists.
Joining him are Ashley Hynch as the club’s reserve grade coach and Bailey Lennox as the club’s ladies league tag coach.
Hynch is a former Narrabri Blues reserve grade premiership-winning coach and captain, who now joins his father Terry Hynch after making the move to Boggabri for a new challenge.
Terry Hynch has been a member of Rampling’s coaching staff since 2023, and his son replaces first grade prop Nick Millar as the Kangaroos’ reserve grade coach.
Lennox’s appointment sees him return for a second year in charge of the club’s ladies’ team.
Rampling told The Courier that he was thrilled to return as coach of the Kangaroos, and he is excited about the acquisition of Ash Hynch, who he expects will have a positive impact on the senior men’s playing group.
“I’m looking forward to it. Another challenge,” Rampling said.
“The number one goal for us is to get back to the semis, but we’d also like to improve on what we did this year and go one better.
“It’s not going to be easy. The other teams are going to strengthen in the off-season and Moree will be keen to reclaim their title.
“We’re starting fresh and there’s no clear favourites. Everyone is on the same level now and it all depends on what you do in the pre-season.
“Our side will look pretty similar. I think hopefully we’ll have a couple of additions but we might lose a couple too. That’s the way it goes.
“The majority of the team will be sticking together, which is great. The boys have had a taste of it this year so they’re keen to go that one better, but we’re all going to have to lift our game to do that.
“Ashley coming on board is really good. I’ve known him for a while and I think he’s a level-headed guy who’s been around and done a fair bit of coaching.
“He’s a good addition to the club and will bring a fresh voice and some different ideas.
“Nick has done a tremendous job with the reserve grade side and has gotten them up to a good standard, and hopefully Ash will be able to reap the benefits of that.”
The Kangaroos will start pre-season training today and will break just before Christmas before starting up again in January.
