Thrive Church hosted a wonderful community fundraiser for Can Assist on Tuesday morning with a line up of informative and empowering panelists. The fundraiser took place at Thrive’s Maitland Street centre, which was the perfect venue for the high tea.

Gae Scutt from Thrive Church was very pleased with the morning event.

“It’s been a lovely morning for everyone to catch up over a cuppa and listen to some great speakers,” Gae said.

“We had a lucky door prize on which was a success, with lots of goodies being taken home.

“It is so important to get behind these not-for-profit organisations in our local areas and the work that Can Assist do deserve a lot of community support.” Gae said.

Overall, it was a special time for connection, conversation and reassurance. With all donations going directly to Can Assist Narrabri, there is no better time than now to support this fantastic organisation.

Since their re-establishment in October last year, the Can Assist Narrabri branch are continuing to grow and give help where it is needed.

Committee member, Natalie Gourley, recently gave The Courier an update on how they are going and the message they are still continuing to push, going forward.

“It is a simple goal – we would just love to get the message out there and remind people that they can apply easily through our website or emailing our team,” Natalie said.

Being the largest cancer support network in rural and remote NSW, Can Assist have more than 55 branches across the state. With each branch comprised of members and volunteers who raise funds to support locals affected by cancer.

As it says in the name, the team are there to assist people financially and give practical support during treatment.

“Whether that is accommodation expenses, medical expenses, travel expenses or eligible household expenses like groceries and utility bills – we assist across the board.

“We stand by the fact that all money raised local stays local.

“At Can Assist, we work closely and collaborate with health professionals to understand the challenges of cancer and ensure that our patients have access to the care they need.”

Can Assist are funded by community fundraising events, local donations and corporate sponsorships.

“We will be holding a golf day next year as our main fundraiser which we’re hoping will be a great day out for the community,” Nat said.

Every local has their own story to tell and you can find some on the Can Assist website.
