Garden Club members met at Kimmi’s Teahouse for its July meeting – thank you Kim for hosting us.

Guest speaker was Alison Young, who is a Local Landcare co-ordinator with the Northern Slopes Landcare Association.

Her role as a Landcare Coordinator is incredibly diverse, and is enhanced by her background in farm agronomy and management, as well as research with the DPI.

Their vision, Healthy Landscapes, Healthy Food and Healthy People, means their work touches on many areas, all aimed at supporting communities and food systems to be vibrant, resilient, and sustainable into the future.

Alison and her associates work with various groups, including farmer groups, local Landcare groups, a community nursery and local indigenous groups, as well as community organisations such as Rotary, Apex and CWA, on numerous educational projects focused on regenerative practices, operating a community nursery, promoting biodiversity conservation, restoring rivers, and managing invasive species, to name just a few.

Their list of projects is truly impressive.

Her passion for her work is obvious and very inspiring.

We wondered how she and her co-workers could possibly fit so much into their working week.

Lyn Rees won the bloom competition this month, with Annette Noy and Judy Haire taking out second and third places.

It’s great to see members bringing in their blooms, and different winners each month.

Pat Norrie was the lucky winner of a voucher to spend at Kimmi’s.

On Wednesday, August 13, we are travelling to Marinda Nursery in Wee Waa for our meeting, commencing at 10am.

Wee Waa Garden Club members have been invited to join us for morning tea, which will be available for purchase at the nursery.
