A dedicated Wee Waa committee raised $4525 for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service at the ‘High tea on the green’ event held at the golf club recently.
The Wee Waa WRHS group hosted the fabulous fundraiser for the health service that’s considered ‘beyond essential’ for the district.
With group member Andy Dewson reflecting most community members have some experience with WRHS, whether they have needed to be flown in the chopper themselves or it might have assisted a loved one.
“We have the hospital as an issue and the chopper is vital for us,” he said.
“My grandmother has definitely used it, she was flown straight to Newcastle at one point after having a minor stroke.
“She wouldn’t have got to Newcastle without it; it really is a vital service in the country and it’s something that we really do need to support.
“And we have a lot of people, thankfully, who do support these wonderful charities like WRHS’.
Andy thanked the community for generously giving to the cause and he said the high tea was also a wonderful great community gathering.
“We were pleasantly surprised with the turnout,” he said.
“As a group, we’ve worked quite hard. A lot of the ladies did a lot of cooking and so we were really pleased with the number of locals and people from across the district who came to support us and to those who donated – thank you.”
