Boggabri Rotary Club president Michael Nott welcomed members, members’ partners, and visiting Rotarians George Truman and Will Lyle from Gunnedah West Club to their meeting held recently.

Everyone enjoyed a delicious baked dinner and dessert prior to a presentation by Mr Truman.

Mr Truman has recently returned from a Rotary ‘Friendship Exchange to South Africa’ and was an entertaining and informative guest speaker for the night.

Five Rotarians were involved in the exchange, two from Armidale and two from Tamworth and Mr Truman from Gunnedah.

During the presentation the group were able to see and hear about the difference that Rotary make across the world, but also the extreme opposites in countries such South Africa.

He encouraged everyone to take the opportunity to participate in a Friendship Exchange if the situation arose.

The next community event planned by Boggabri Rotary Club is the Small Schools Public Speaking Competition to be held in September.

The club provides trophies, timekeepers, and a barbecue for participants, officials and staff.

The Boggabri members have recently installed an underground irrigation system in Rotary Park.

Mr Nott said the next phase of the project will be a covered cement block with table and chairs which will make the park more appealing to locals and visitors who visit the park to view the steam engines or to take a break.

Collecting and recycling old lead batteries such as car, truck and industrial, provides the main source of income to the Boggabri Rotary Club which is in turn is returned to the community through donations, activities and events.

These batteries are hazardous waste and should be disposed of responsibly through recycling programs.

They should never be put in household recycling or garbage bins at home.

Donations of batteries from the community are most welcome.

Robyn Skillen said: “Having only 10 members, Boggabri Rotary is very small, however we are continuously looking to support the community and increase our membership.”
